Does anyone recognize this part?

I posted this last week to the "Red" forum but didn't get much response so I'll try here, too: I had the MCV out of my 454 and found this just behind it (at the bottom of the range transmission case), and I don't recognize it. It seems to be a complete part, not a broken-off portion of something else. Transmission and hydraulics work well and there's evidence that other folks have been in there over the years, so in all likelihood it was dropped in there during a long-ago repair, but I'm curious where it comes from (maybe it's part of a tool rather than a tractor part). Any ideas? Thanks!

Some part off a grease gun? Looks like it goes in side-ways and sometihng pivots around it?

I think the other answer you got was most likely correct. Part of one of the synchronizers. My IH service manual does not break it down to get a good look at it.

Thanks -- the reason I wasn't 100% convinced it's part of a synchro is that they're in the speed transmission and I found this behind the MCV in the range transmission case. I suppose that the little opening at the back of the clutch housing is big enough that it might have migrated through. If I ever have to take the top off the speed transmission for some reason I will take a look at the synchros and see if this looks like part of one.
