The TA on my 784 no longer works in Lo and sometimes slips in Hi, I'm thinking it needs to be replaced, which is better rebuild it, something I have never done, or just replace it?

Thanks for any help with this,
David

The pressure on the MCV may be low the sprag clutch is for sure out. when it goes the locking clutch has no way to hold engine pressure, The front multi plate clutch holds partial engine torque but must have regulated MCV pressure. I woul rebuild it (double split) but that is me. Kevin Meir has parts. Jim

Hi, my brother had a similar problem on his 684, Lo T/A it would work if there was a load on the tractor or if you lightly applied the brakes. In Hi it would pull OK but if you turned engine off on a slope without parking brake on after a while the pressure would release off the HI clutch and tractor would roll down the slope.

He had a retired IH mechanic install a T/A elimination kit as he didn't use the T/A that much after he quit chopping corn.
I believe the T/A in 74/84 series can be changed by splitting at the clutch housing and accessing some snap rings via the PTO clutch cover under the right foot rest.

Is the 784 a 560 dry high side clutch that freewheel in low or a 806 style with wet clutches and no freewheel? Either way sounds like new talent and double split time?
