So, why did they make a SuperWD9 and no Super W9,? I'm just curious. And didn't they make some 600's and 650's with gas motors?

Not sure about the W9 stuff but I do know that there were very few gas 600 and 650's. A collector down the road a piece had one of each.

During the SWD 9 era IH did sell a grasser with the same W 9 335 engine and called it the WR 9 S. These were made from 1953 to 1957, serial numbers from 501 to 779. I have never seen one but I have heard about them. Not as rare as the 600 and 650 gassers, where I understand there were very low production numbers, I do not have any information on distillate or LP.

they made the super W6 and figured it would do the work of the 9 so they didnt think a super 9 was needed. but dont really know why the 600 and 650 gas burners came out when farmers were going to diesel.

I agree, I have also wondered why the 600 & 650 gas tractors were ever produced. In my area (Central Canada), the W-9's were not popular field tractors because of the terrible fuel economy. Anyone who did field work with a W-9 didn't do it for very long. I believe that might be the reasons that W-9's are harder to come by today. They were parked, sold, traded, or scrapped pretty early in life.
