Where are Magneto points?

Hi, I want to change the points on my Farmall H, but can't seem to find them. She has the horizontal magneto set-up. I pulled the mag cover, where the coil is, and saw the condenser in there. The kill switch wire connects to this from the outside of the mag box. I couldn't see the points in there and couldn't find an easy way to remove the coil to look underneath. Then I pulled the cap and rotor and the plate under those and saw 2 gears. I got scared and closed it back up. Was I on the right track?

Leave those TWO screws you saw ALONE and remove the THREE screws that hold the next section of the mag in place. That assembly will come off intact, exposing the points, and when you put it back together, the shaft can only engage one way, so timing is not lost as it would have been if you had removed the TWO screws and taken the gears out.

You will have to cut and paste the link into your browser. (Your mag is an H-4.)

Just remember............Magnetos ARE rocked science. If you are unsure don't mess with them.

Thank you Bob! Once I pulled the other 3 screws, I could see the whole set-up. I installed new points and condenser, cap & rotor and new plugs. She was a little long to start before and after warmed up, she didn't want to start at all. NOW she fires right up whether cold or hot. Thank you again sir!

I am a little leery of trying to time the mag, but if push came to shove, I think I could do it. I've read quite a bit about it on here and feel as though I understand the process. But hey, if the timing is set, why mess with it, right? So for now, I'm just happy I finally found the points. Haha. I just didn't want to take the wrong thing off to find them.
