IH 424 pouring water from fan hub

I just picked up a 1967 (serial 13,xxx) 424 diesel tractor that is pouring water from the behind the fan hub in the water pump area. I've seen 2 different water pumps listed for this tractor with the Diesel engine. Which one do I need?

Hi RTR, the difference in water pumps is the early model BD-154 engines did not have a thermostat bypass hose.
The newer models have a short hose from the thermostat housing to the rad hose casting of the water pump.
Your 424 should have the newer style but do a visual check for the bypass hose.

PS at one time you could just buy the new water pump drive shaft with bearings and if you had a hydraulic press you could just replace the drive shaft BUT there was always the possibility of breaking the water pump casting.

Got one ordered. Hopefully it's the right one as the pictures weren't that great. Thank you

I finally got the new water pump in and got the old one taken off. Looking at them side by side there is a noticeable difference in the throat distance from the pulleys to the hub where the fan bolts to. Is this gonna be an issue? Seems like it will be to me. This one does have the place to install the tube for the bypass hose and was labeled for use with a 424 diesel. Do I have the right water pump?

Here are some pics .....

It looks like you still have a fan spacer on your old pump. I would think that when you get that on your new pump it will be the correct dimension.

I saw that listed on the parts catalog while looking up the hoses after I posted this. Thank you!
