Farmall Super A Tire Track Sweeps

Having the devil of a time getting these sweeps to work properly. Either they don't ride low enough to fluff the tire tracks or the "j-rods" (I don't know what else to call them) pop out of the plates on the arm assembly and then the whole thing drops to the ground of course. Any tips on how to remedy this? Should I drill holes in the rods at the "J" or hook and use cotter pins or something? Someone suggested that.

The brackets where the "j" end go need to be moved so the eye of the bracket is turned up instead of where you have them. Just remove them and re-locate.

Look at these pictures. Once it is moved, You might also need to adjust your pressure springs so you get the correct height and spring setting.

Those pictures are kinda hard to see. Try looking at these, this is the typical setting for the pressure (J-rods) rods

You have the brackets that the J rods go in installed incorrectly. The brackets need to be vertical, not horizontal as you have them. Take the U
bolts and brackets off and remount them.

Thanks so much. I get it now! You are the best.

Could you please post me a photo of the proper way to connect the heavy arms onto the inside rear of the tractor chassis also? I don't think I have mine right.

I don't have a picture handy on my phone, but the portion of the cultivator bracket that sticks out to the left or right goes under the final drive. [/quote]

I think I have my plates upside down then, if I understand your meaning...and/or on the wrong sides of the tractor. LOL

Yes, those brackets are up side down and I believe need to be switched to opposite side as well.

They are upside down. Once you turn them over, you may find they are on the right side. Take a very close look at RTS's first picture and you can see the correct mounting.

Go here then download the 144 manual (fourth from the bottom):
