anyone have both 1256 and 1206? How do they compare with each other in work ability.Just curious.'nother thing.Neighbor has a 'rag' of a 1206.Kind of wants to 'update',but doesnt want to spend any money.Got to thinking(dangerous)Thought of tradeing my 826 Hydro for it.I need another 'big' tractor. The little '8' isnt big enough for ground work.Been baleing with the 756 and 1256 lately.Think I acctually prefer these over the Hydro.Am I nuts?

We have both an 806 and an 856, I like both quite well. We have converted the 806 to shift like the 856. That made the 806 fun to drive again. They are pretty interchangeable for the work they will do. I know not the ones you asked about but similar situation. So I would think other than maybe the shifters they would interchange pretty good. I do know I have heard about if you stomp the brake pedal hard sometimes it would break the shaft that the brakes are on. That is just hear say though.
I would stay way from one that had the old RD pump on it. They are about impossible to get parts for.

I have a 'junk' nonrunning 806. Wonder if I fix it if it would work/have as much power as an 856?However,it would probably be cheaper to just buy a good running tractor.

Those 1206's are like gold here. Are they high there? I would fix it up as a winter project, sell it, and buy a 966 or 1066. That's a big step up and those two will do the kind of work you are thinking. Every 1206 I've seen sell goes higher than 966's with a cab.

Basically, the 1256 is a newer version of the 1206 with a better shifting set up. The turbos may be slightly different. As for work, they will hang together. It just depends on the day and which one has more fuel turned to it. The 1256 may also have a better seat, and the tilt steering wheel that was found on the 56 series. I like them both, but am partial to the 1206.

No. A 1206 isnt worth any more than anything else. This is pretty strong JD country.Nobody(except me) farms farms with the old stuff here. 'Reds' are not too plentyful.

Rags work great if you know where to but the duct tape and bailing wire. Steve not giving you grief but a rag is just that and if you don't have enough just come to louisiana and I will set you up with plenty , you can even pic the color.
