Just had our motor rebuilt and going to install it .
The locator pins were very hard to get out when
taking the motor out. . I checked the fitting on them
today into the housing and they are very snug to try
in go in . Is there any tricks to get them in and if
there is anything else to make the motor install
much easier .

The pins are supposed to be a very snug fit, just leave them out until you get the engine slid into place, partially install a couple of bolts to hold the engine aligned and then drive the 2 pins in with a hammer.
 
when ever I put an engine in something I usually have some longer bolts with head removed, I screw them into the transmission case or bell housing whichever has the threads. It gives a way to line things up making it easier to slide the motor in
