Regular/F20 OD gearbox

I bought this Regular cheap for parts and for the
OD gearbox on it, assuming it will go on my
F20. Will it? Not a big deal if it won't. Which
manufacturer is this one made by, Heisler? How
do I get it off the front of the trans? I lightly pried
on the yoke but it didn't move and I didn't want
to break anything. Do I need to use a puller to
remove the yoke so I can get the cover off,
under which I'm assuming are the bolts holding
it to the front of the transmission? Or is the
shaft the yoke is mounted on somehow
retained by the front cover? Lastly, how to use
it? Can you use it in any gear to bump that gear
up, or only "high" gear? Never knew anyone that
had an F series around here with this apparatus
on it, but I think it's neat. Thanks !

Not a Heisler overdrive, its a Behlen style road gear. not necessarily a Behlen, but that style. You put the tractor in neutral and then engage the road gear and it drives the tractor. Its all gotta come apart to get it off. And some you need to take the top plate off the trans to get em out

No idea, but the look of it reminds me of my "H" drive system. My "H" has a woodruff key that transmits all the hp and torque from the drive shaft to transmission, and it gets deformed. MIne was a real stinker to get of, had to pull and pull and PULL, over several days, but i got it. In my opinion, it was not a good design. If there's a woodrull key inside there, it might be deformed. Patience is the word.

I have removed a couple of those overdrives and could not get the yoke off either. I discovered that you don't have to remove the yoke before removing the cover. Just remove the bolts holding the cover on and it will come off with the yoke and the internal gear the yoke is attached to.

Thanks guys, I wondered if that front cover was holding stuff in. Hopefully the guts are OK. Just thought it would look good on my F20 when I get the engine back together. Needed some parts from the Regular engine for the F20 anyway, so it all works out.

I am not sure an OD off a Regular will be a direct fit on an F20. I have taken ODs off a Regular and an F20. The Regular uses a special extra long top shaft in the transmission because the top gear in the OD has to slide back and forth on it to engage the road gear. The top shaft in the F20 transmission is already extra long and splined on it's forward end, but the F20 OD I removed (which looked just like yours) had a splined sleeve that slid onto the forward end of the top transmission shaft and was held in place with a bolt. This was to lengthen the splines so the sliding gear would have enough travel.

Guess we'll find out when I get it out then lol.
Now that I know how to without breaking
anything.
