Cub 22 Sickle Mower

I recently got a 1948 Cub with a Cub 22 sickle mower. When I put the cutter bar into the vertical transport position the knife falls down out of the cutter bar. Many years ago I had another Cub with the Cub 22 mower and never had a problem with this. I can't recall now if there is a part or something else that keeps the knife from falling. Is it just friction that is supposed to hold it, or am I missing a part that holds it.

Thanks for any help,

All the old sickle mowers had some sort of stop to prevent the sickle from falling very far when raised to vertical. I'd bet that some part is either broken or missing, and it shouldn't be too hard to find. A word of caution, ALWAYS make sure your fingers are away from the sickle when raising the cutter bar.

Thanks. I have the spur thing on the pitman rod, but it looks like my real knife head cap is broken, which is the part the spur hits. It looks like the cap is aviailble from Case IH, or I may be able to fab something up.

Thanks. I couldn't remember what keeps the knife from falling out, but I DO for sure remember to keep my fingers out of the sickle, but thanks for the reminder.

was just on case ih looking for a part and checked the Winfield Ear part #ME652 is NLA. probably could fabricated with a little farmer ingenuity.
