Whats involved in getting to and replacing the oil sleeve on the inside side of a Farmall B L side rear axle. I have the axle off now. How hard is it to get the old sleeve out and a new one inserted? Whats the best way to take the old one out, and the best way to put a new one in?

Are you doing the diff shaft or the Axle that the wheel mounts on. "sleeves" are you talking about the seal which one the one on the tranny or the one on the final drive both can be punched out whith any thing installing is another deal. I have pieces of PCV pipe different sizes and also pipe couplers just find the rite size and tap the new seal in.

Gene, I took off the wheel. I then took off the axle AT the brake band, at the side of the transmission case. Im talking about the oil seal that keeps oil out of the brake drum and band area.
It seems that IF I punched it OUT, it would fall inside the trans case. Am I right?
U say that installing another is something else. Does that mean its darn hard to do? If so, do you recommend me doing it?
Im 68. I have 2 other tractors, a H and a CC Case. I will not be using it too alful much. That being the case, and assuming my limited experience, do you recommend me changing it?
I bought a bottle of Lucas Hub Seal to put in the trans case in either case, whether I take it out and replace it, or not.

So you are talking about the diff shaft. There are three cap screws holding the assu to the tranny remove them and press the seal out or drive it as its junk anyway. Now you can put that assy in a vise and use the jaw to press the new seal in. I am currently doing just that just get the seal started careful and close the vise and press the new one in. I am also doing the one in the final drive. The diff shaft will come out where the bubble plate is on the out or wheel side you need to remove the brake drum so the shaft can slide out the you can replace that seal also. Im even replacing the seal on the axle where the wheel fastens. There is a ffelt piece and seal on the outer side and after removing the cap screw the axle will slide out so the parts cvan be installed in the cap that is next to the hub. The tractor im working has been painted and looke better than when new its just too bad after all that they found those seals leaking thats why when i restore one i do all that first. Paint and tires are the LAST things to do. Need any help call 319-430-3907

Dont let age bother as im 80 still doing it as there are those who want electrical and so forth original and they do keep me busy.

Gene I take it you've forgot more about being a mechanic than ill ever know. Aas to calling on the phone. I spent too much time on JD As and a B, and behind 105s & 155s to hear worth a hoot on the phone.
