Anyone tell me where the 361 diesel engine (block S/N 43981) was built?

I'm getting 2 different stories; one says USA the other says German built.

Thanks Dan, I thought that it likely would be USA manufactured but this farmall field guide book I have lists it as German. The old gentleman who rebuilt it told me it was manufactured here.

Last week I bought an old 856 that has a rebuilt D361 engine. Thanks again,

Gary

Pretty sure the D-361 & DT-361 (806&1206) were both built at IH's Melrose Park, Illinois plant, a west side suburb of Chicago. Same with the 407, 282, and the 300 & 400 series. D-310 & D-358 plus all the little 4-cylinders in 544, 484, 584, 684, 784, 884, were all built at IH's Nuess Germany plant. There was also a German built D & DT-402 used in construction equipment and European tractors.
