I got my super A running like it should, however have one other problem I need to fix before I can go to the field with it. When I start the tractor it runs at full throttle, its hard to move the rod from the carb, with the engine off the rod can be moved easily. I took the governor apart and everything looks ok, the spring and bearing was in good shape. I just can't get it to idle down, it just runs wide open no matter what you do.

With engine off remove the pin from the clevis going to the carb. Now open throttle and adjust the clevis so the carb is open. Mite need to remove that piece of linkage so you an free the clevis but thats the way to adjust gov to carb linkage. You mite also want to remove the carb and check the throttle shaft as the arm that is fastened to the throttle shaft can come loose therefore not operating the butterfly in the carb correct. I have just passed my 80th b day so ive seen that problem before been buying, selling and restoring those little tractors for a while just never know sometimes what you can find.

Gene, I found the problem and this is the craziest thing I've ever seen in my life!! I adjusted the rod like you said and noticed the throttle shaft was moving in and out some, so after firing up the tractor and it running wide open still I took the carb off and found the screws and butterfly were GONE, I have yet to find where they went, I've checked the oil bath and up the manifold. Unless they are in the bottom of the carb I am totally lost, so hopefully after putting those parts back on it will run like it should again!!

The throttle plate is probably in the manifold, the screws usually make bad noises and end up either imbedded in a piston, or if your lucky, they leave through the exhaust. use locktite on the new ones. Jim

Well it needed a new head gasket anyway so I guess this is a good time as any. This tractor is starting to test my patience, always something with it!!
