Farmall 450

Will look at buying a 1957 Farmall 450 LP with a three bottom rollover plow. Wide front end, two point hitch, good TA, recent repaint, and good operating condition. A mechanic is going over it right now to be sure everything is operating correctly. Always loved 450s but not sure what would be a reasonable price range just for the tractor. Any idea about the value of the tractor alone, plow alone, or combination of plow and tractor. Owner wants to sell so I think he will entertain reasonable offers. I've check Tractor House prices but the range seems wide for tractors of dubious quality and the quality tractors are either over priced or "call for price". I'm not a low baller but I'm not plugged into antique Farmall pricing these days. Does the LP help or hurt the price? I don't have any LP tractors but do have a 500 gal LP tank with the new fittings that can be used for fueling. This tractor would be used on the ranch for light work in my hay operations but no heavy tillage or pulling. Thanks for any suggestions.

Surprised you haven't got a couple posts already. If rear tires are good, almost new, Firestone, or Titan/Good Year, paint job is shiny and correct, Fast Hitch is tight, no welds on the IH wide front and decent matched front tires, the tractor could be worth as much as $2000-$2500, maybe even more to someone who really wants an LP tractor. An LP engine reduces price in my opinion, roughly $500. Aftermarket wide front drops price too, $300-$500 compared to the IH axle.

Dad had a '57 450 gas from '64 to '68. Was a stout 4-bottom tractor, just plan on at least two tanks of gas if you were going to do heavy field work all day. The LP tank is bigger, but you burn more LP per hour.

I think it was a 450, may have been a 400 LP sell at an auction back around 1978, tractor was in better than average shape, nfe, good matched tires, brought $500. The early '40's H that was rough brought $300.

With good to excellent rear tires, working TA,if you get good report from Mechanic I would say 26 to 3400 dollars. Deduct $800 if you have to get new tires after purchase.

Depends on the paint job level and tires. Saw average fair condition ones sell for around 2500 to 3500. Add the plow worth to that. Could have more than that in some paint jobs though. New tires and wide front could also be worth half that or more. Check for the correct head, see them for sale sometimes with a head switch.

An LP powered tractor would have very little value around here. My current propane supplier, as well as my former supplier, both refuse to install the necessary fittings on a 500 gallon tank. They won't tell me why. Our local co-op also will not refuel a propane powered tractor OR truck, even if you drive it to them. They claim it is because of liability issues, but won't go into detail.

I got a 450 LP, 2pt, IHC wide front,3 Hyd, TA, But i did put on new rims.wouldn't want to be with out it's smiling face. I would surely think it's worth 3,500 in anybodys money.

Some very nice deals out there. But down here....
Tractor $3500 ( and up, depends on condition)
Should have 3 remotes etc.
Factory LP $500 (add)
Aftermarket LP $1000 (minus)
Fast Hitch $800 (add)
Factory wfe $1000 (add)
Swartz wfe $500 (add)
Rollover plow
Hydraulic $1500 (add)
Mechanical (trip) $500 (add)

Thanks for all the good info on the 450 LP. I had looked at another 450 LP that was absolutely expo quality in every way. I could not get him to commit to a sale so I'm looking at this one. I was surprised about the trouble getting support for the LP fueling. My LP provider said it would be no problem and not very expensive to add the fueling station. Anyone have an idea of the value of the plow??? I don't have any two point equipment and a roll over plow would be handy on the ranch. My other IH tractor is a IH-3588 three point and four other green tractors. Unlike John Deere hydraulic rotary rollovers, I believe this one uses a hydraulic cylinder and meshed gearing system. Thanks again for the great advice as it gives me a good starting point for negotiations. I will post some pictures if I can get the sale done.

Where is down here? With your additives, this adds up to around $7000 or $5500 for just the tractor. That seems a bit high, especially since it is an LP tractor. Why would LP add a $500 when few people have the LP support system to fuel the tractor. Not saying you are off base as I'm truly not a 450 LP expert but wonder if they are more popular in your area? Appreciate your input as it gives me another point of reference for when I go look at the tractor. Thanks again.
