584 steering

Hi All, this is my first time posting. I wish that I would have come upon this site a long time ago, since, I have spent a lot of time fixing the 584

I have spent a lot of time and money fixing the steering on this tractor. After a rebuilt steering cylinder from New Zealand, and a locally machined steering rod for the cylinder when it failed the 3rd time, I now have a new problem.

I only worked about 20 minutes with the new machined steering cylinder when I lost my steering again. This time there wasn't any sign of fluid loss from the cylinder, just no steering when I turn the wheel.

Could this be related to the steering hand pump under the steering wheel? This model has the Danfoss hand pump.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

There doesn't seem to be any loss of hydraulics from the loader or pto, so I figure that it must be somewhere in the steering system.

thanks in advance!

Tim

Hi Tim, it could be the priority valve in the MCV is stuck. If you have a remote hydraulic outlets on the rear, dead head the
remote by having no connections on the outlets, pull the remote lever until you hear the hydraulic relief valve release, At the
same time try to turn the steering wheel.

No steering when you turn the wheel? Does that means the wheel turns as expected but has no effect? That indicates cylinder piston
seals not holding. On the other hand if the steering wheel won't turn(like dead engine steering) that's a pressure/flow/supply
problem. The steering control valves don't usually just go bad to that degree without warning.
