Super A Help Again

I need your help once again, I went and started my 48 Super A the other day and it literally sounded like a race car engine, then it would purr like it should then run rough again, so I drove it around to the shed and it still had good power just sounded really bad, like it was only on 3 cylinders, today I removed the valve cover and saw a valve that was stuck, turning it over with the hand crank it wouldn't move, I took the rocker arm assembly off, sprayed PB Blaster around the valve and spring, then lightly tapped the end of the valve with a rubber hammer and it popped back up, not had time to start it back up. What would you guys do? I had a similar problem on my JD A when I put a used head on, a valve was sticking, a little PB Blaster and a few taps and its been going good ever since, not sure if it would work on this one or not, I'm not much of a motor mechanic ) I ran this tractor several hours last week so it has been ran lately.

I am not a believer in snake oil additives. But, Seafoam is an additive that is very popular and I have had good results with. Get a can and put half in the crankcase and half in the fuel tank.

freeing a stuck valve on an assembled engine....and it popped back [i:65ccbcf61d]up[/i:65ccbcf61d]. consider yourself a winner!
ok, now stay with it. Your PB blaster, little down, little up...when it's moving freely, switch to motor oil and keep doing it.
tractor valve springs are weak...you can just use your hand.
smooth as silk (do em all too), ok button it up and use your favorite snake oil (SeaFoam, MMO, ATF)in the gas for a while.

WOrk it some and it will be fine. Using 15 40 diesel grade oil is also reasonable. In the winter 10 30 might be needed to allow good starting. Jim

If it was my machine I would mix 1qt of ATF into 2 or 3 gal of gas and run it on that. The ATF will clean up carbon build up and lube up the top of the engine and help with sticking rings etc etc and is a lot cheaper them most other things and works well

So I turned the engine over this morning with the hand crank and the valve was working like it should, I started the tractor up and it did sound better but I'm still having governor problems, it was running wide open and would not respond to me moving the throttle lever, I could not get it to idle down at all even trying to move the rod from the carb to the governor so I just shut it back off. Not really sure why it is doing this now but the governor has been acting up lately, ideas?

Lol. Good things come to those who wait. I think this case the valve was stuck open not close so it shouldn't have hurt anything. The governor is centrifugal weights and they could also be sticking.

The governor might be needing a rebuild. The main bearing (in the governor's front is suspect, as are internal weight pivots, and a spring loaded plunger in the gov shaft. another issue may be a control rod from the carb to the governor on the left side could be rubbing the block. Jim
