H Manifold Studs

I need to replace a few manifold studs on my '42 H. I'm replacing the manifold and when removing it three of the nuts were rusted to the stud and instead of the nut coming off the stud came out. I'm just glad the stud didn't break. Where is a good place to find replacement studs? Is there something special about the studs (strength, heat resistance, etc.) or this something I can find at the hardware store or an auto parts store?

Also, when I screw them back into the block should I put some copper anti seize on them or anything else?

Thanks,

Most auto supply stores have suitable studs. I would get them long enough to use a tall nut and a hardened steel washer. The hardened steel washer will be the problem so you may have to settle for just a good heavy washer. It has to span the expansion slots in manifold if present. Do use anti seize, copper or other. I would also give the other studs that did not come out a chance to come out with double nutting or stud remover but very cautiously so as not to break them off. I hate lousy manifold studs.

That might have been true years ago, but I would bet the quality is close to same now days on obsolete parts. Depends a lot on weather the studs are out of hardware stock or automotive parts stock I would say. At any rate, on an old H , I would have no problem with hardware quality studs over old fatigued studs that came out of the tractor.

When I needed 3 of those studs for my M, I went to my local NAPA. They had a few studs in stock, but nothing even close to what I needed. Local Case-IH dealer had them in stock.
