Farmall H PTO Issue?

Hey guys. Been using my H more and more, finding it to be a step better than the Super C (imagine that right???).

Anyways, when I first got this thing, I was discing with it. When I turned around at the end of the field, I was then going down hill, and the engine would rev way up (before I could slow the throttle down). WHEN it hit a high RPM, there would all of a sudden be a weird vibration in the rear end of the tractor. I could feel it in my boots/feet, kind of hear it, etc.

I finally realized that it wouldn't do it if I pushed the clutch in, then started moving again, however it might start doing it again in 5 feet, or 50 feet, or the next day.

Next, I realized that it was the PTO shaft that was doing this, not actually turning, but vibration, something fierce too!!

So, I solved the problem by just leaving the pto shaft engaged... Well, that worked out just great, until I needed the PTO for the baler and swather.

Problem was worse now, thee pto shaft was shaking/vibrating/and trying to turn, with full engine power behind it, not like when the oil just moves them a little. Had to shut the tractor off when hooking up PTO stuff, otherwise, I couldn't get the yolk to slide onto the shaft.

Now it sits there and vibrates the SNOT out of the implement that is hook up, until I either push the clutch, or turn the PTO on?

So, something is worn out, and I am guessing, not fully disengaging, so, where do I start??

With the front of the tractor heading down hill (about 18 to 24 inches lower than the rears) pull the PTO out of the rear. It is quite simple to remove. Determine if it is bent, or if a bearing is toast (probable) and go from there. It has no gears, just a dog clutch that is Off or ON. Getting it back in is a bit of a pin the tail on the donkey task, helped with a three foot piece of pipe over the shaft to act as a lever to lift the input shaft in alignment with the trans countershaft socket. I would check the bushing in the back of the transmission counter shaft. It serves as the pilot bearing for the PTO shaft. If it is shot or missing it would explain why you can't get it to engage like it should.
