Found a farmall m with no front end in a
Junk yard that I wanna buy and restore
It is missing the front complete bolster and frame rails
Rear tires are junk
What be the easiest way to get it off a goose neck trailer
Have a wrecker company
Come lift it off?

I have done that by backing under a big tree that has a limb out the side and then use a chain hoist etc and lift the front end up just enough to get it off the deck and start to slowly drive off. You do need to adjust things as you do but it can be done. Or if you have a tractor with a loader you can do it with the loader and about the same way also BTDT

As the other poster said lift if from above with a chain fall, loader or gantry crane OUR jack it up on the trailer and put some sort of dolly under the front so it'll roll.

Another way you could jack it up and a put one of those dollies that you slide under each tire to move a car around in the shop. I use those quite often.

Years ago we would go to Rock Island and get tractors on a 22 foot flat bed truck. We would put two tractors on the truck. The first one we had skids made from 6" channel iron with a skid shoe welded to the bottom. The front and the back of the shoe was bent upward at a 45 degree angle. We would take the front end off and bolt these channels to the front of the tractor, say where the cultivator would have bolted to the M. Then we used the brakes and backed it around to position the tractor so the other one could be loaded front ward into the first one. Any way, you could easily make these skids with a minimum of cost. Two pieces of 4 to 5 foot channels and two pieces of flat metal about 12 to 14 inches long and 3 or 4 inches wide. Weld the shoes to the channel and drill holes to bolt them to the front bolster casting.

Cut off the junk tires leaving the rims. Use a smaller narrower trailer under the front lifting on the torque tube and the front pulley groove. Chain the small trailer to the under side of the differential. Tie the drawbar to a post or tree. With someone applying brakes, drive out from under it slowly. Jim

Here's what I would do, and have done before.

What you need:

LOTS of chain.
Cable Come Along, or some way to regulate chain/tractor
Nerves of steel.
And a way to keep the safety police from watching...

Find 2 TWO trees, about 10-12 feet or so apart from each other. Back the trailer up like you are going to attempt to back right in between the two trees. Run a chain from each tree to the front of the tractor, so now you have a V of chain going to the engine area.

Keep in mind, chains need to be LEVEL when the are on the tree, and on the tractor that is ON THE TRAILER. So, maybe 4-6 feet off the ground?

Someone then needs to get in the truck, and someone needs to be on the trailer.

Put your "regulator" be it a come along, or what ever on the back of the tractor, and hook it to the trailer. So, now if you were to try to drive away, you would take the tractor, still on the trailer, and two trees with you.

Go for it!! Start driving SLOWLY, and I mean S L O W. While the other guy lets chain out a little at a time. In theory, the tractor will stay right where it is, and the TRAILER will drive away! ;)

Done it before, would do it again.

Little slow, and a little spooky, but it is pretty easy on the machine and trailer if done right. Very little risk of breaking something...

Also, I have a spare narrow front end, bolster, frame rails, radiator, grill, all that stuff...

I think the only thing I don't have is a steering shaft and main steering gear?

Let me know if you are interested... Bryce

Are you realy sure you wanta restore that tractor? It gonna cost a small fortune to fix it up. If front frame eails and bolster are missing, what else is wrong with it? Is engine runing or is it stuck too? You might wanta think it over before you bring it home. Good luck!

WOHA! Careful with the name calling there buddy! :p

Not sure about genius...

Me and dad rigged that up one time for a little tractor, worked so well we did it with a few other things too!!

Have used this "technique" to unload plows and stuff to (on wheels of course). Pretty easy on the trailer, and you don't have to have a front loader, or a whole herd of guys to unload it!! ;)

Eddie, unless it has special sentimental value, or is a really rare early one, for nearly the same or less money than you will have in parts, you can buy a complete M. Again, not sure what is your motivation for this specific tractor, but decent running M's are not that expensive.

Getting all the needed parts for this one may raise your eyebrows.........
