450 power steering

I have a 450 in the shop. it has a behlen power steering unit under the hood that was leaking oil around the steering shaft. I noticed driving the tractor in the shop that the power steering wasn't working. anyways I resealed the unit and replaced back on the tractor. I hooked a test gauge on the pressure hose that feeds the unit with oil. the gauge only reads 150psi. I then put a gauge in the rear hyd outlet on the tractor and read 1000psi. I do have a shop manual but cannot find it. how much psi should be feedind the powersteering unit? im sure it should be more than 150psi. the hose with the 90 degree bend is where the oil pressure is coming from to the unit. could something be wrong in that hyd block?

Yes. The valve in your top picture is your priority valve. It consists of a heavy spring and a plunger and some other stuff, and it can be taken apart and cleaned. Good used ones are pricey, but I obtained a good used from my Case IH dealer. Good luck, Hugh

The aux valve should run 12 to 1500 psi and power steering relief valve close to 1200psi with a gauge hooked to the outlet of valve. If holding aux valve on demand gives you good steering, the problem is in the flow divider. If not, wellllll, might be pump but most likely excessive leakage through valve and motor of steering unit. Those flow divider spools wear and block also wears. Spools are replacable if you can find a new one now days. The whole block can be rebuilt but very expensive. Oh, it also has it's own little relief valve right above the outlet of valve, accessed with valve top off an spool out.

Before spending money on parts you might check the screen in the reservoir. It is located on the right side of the reservoir with a 4-bolt cover just in front of the brake pedals. If it gets plugged up it causes low flow and pressure problems.
