On my tractor, there is a small sheetmetal cover you can remove that covers an oval hole in the bottom of the drivetrain casting - you can see the flywheel assembly through it. What is the purpose of this port?
As an aside, when I opened mine, that cavity was filled with junk, looks like at some point since 1952, and animal made a nest in there. Someone must have once left the cover off for a while or something? The next material was lightly soaked in oil, not saturated, but oily. there was bits of cloth, grass, wood chips, fibreglass insulation, all sorts of things. I pulled out as much as I could through that port.
Any issue pulling the front sheet metal guard off the bottom end of the housing to get at the rest? Or will that require me to have gaskets or fluids on hand? I don't have the shop manual yet, it's on its way.
