A thought I had. The seals I replaced on my H were Case-IHC seals, and the metal was very thin. I mooshed one or two trying to tap them in, finally found a PVC pipe or bushing or some such, the exact correct inside and outside diameters, that fit perfectly in and around the shaft, and I could carefully tap-tap-tap the new seal without damage. NOt sure I could have installed them without dinging them or bending them any other way. I also think you are supposed to put them in so the oil fills up the inside-U-end.

Been there done that. My bull pinion gears had a very slight grooves created by the old seals. I managed to line those up perfectly with the new seal. Both sides leaked. The second try I didn't drive the seals all the way home. That resolved the problem.

If the grooves are too deep or wide you'll need to weld them up and re turn to a perfect diameter. Or find some replacements in better shape.

Another thing to check is the bull pinion retainer orings.

If there was evidence of an old seal still present in the hole prior to your installing the new seal, pack it with grease first.
The new seal needs some lubrication to work, with the old seal still present it is not getting enough lube to keep the sealing surface soft, hence the grease to lube the outermost seal.
