ih 3588 steering problem update

so i bypassed the compensator block . ive read 2 different ways to hookup the hoses , the front 2 and the back 2
together, and also side to side. can anyone verify which one is right . i hooked it up front together and backs
together, but it turns real hard and only when im moving , and when i turn real hard right it wants to kick back on me
. i unhooked hoses from the steering motor and turned steering wheel and what little oil is in there came out real nice
also i changed the filters . could there be air in the system and if so what is the bleeding procedure thanks

Steering gets it's oil from steering pump located under skid pan. OEM is a piston pump at $3000.+, after market gear pumps (which I use) $1000.+. Bad piston pump will cause steering hoses to pulsate a bunch and sound like a bad U-joint/brg in drive line.

I believe I gave you incorrect information on how to connect the hose. I was picturing the alternating check valve laying the wrong way,(been about 25 years ). At any rate, you have to connect the hoses so that they come together off the SAME end of the valve. In other words, each end of the valve has a plug and the hoses close to that plug are to be hooked together . All that valve really does is prevent drift from internal leakages that are naturally present in a steering hand pump. It contains a check valve and spring on each end with a piston in between them. When you steer one way the flow opens that check ball and at the same time applies pressure to the piston that pokes the ball on the other end of valve off it's seat so oil can return through steering hand pump.

On your other question about the pump being good. If pump is bad steering will be slow and difficult AND when you steer to stops and hold it against the stops the TA might not work and red light might come on. When that pump goes it often puts crap into the rest of the system unfortunately. That is why IH added a filter screen up on the other end of hose coming from pump where it enters the relief valve block. I got to the point where I would not let a 2+2 leave the spot with out that filter screen fitting if that front pump ran dry from a broken hose or pipe. Just running dry a few minutes would shell out the pump.

You might check the steering relief valve that is located under the cab deck plate on the left hand side, mine was doing something like yours and my relief valve had blown apart I replaced it and then it worked fine.
