BN Axle - trivia question?

Out of six BN axles I have, the end of five look like this first picture.

One looks like this. Anyone know what the difference is?

Between the A, AV and B/BN there were at least 5 different versions of the axle. The heavy cast wheel used a different one than the stamped steel wheel. Early B/BN used the A axles. Left from an A was standard on a B. Right was used with the heavy wheel option. They were later changed to something specific to the B/BN. I don't know just what changed between early/late but I think the axle for the cast wheel was a slightly different length than the one for the steel wheel. The AV used the fifth version on both sides.

To confound things further, the axles for the Super A and AV were 3 new part numbers. I don't know how they varied either, but were sub'ed back to the A and AV.

In any case, any specific BN should have had the same axles on both sides. If you have a mismatch, one must have been replaced.

Thanks Jim, great info!
And yes, both of these are on opposite sides of the same tractor.
It has cast wheel centers on it but I don't know if they're original.

The bottom is built with a longer center lip for the cast
heavy center on latter models , I think.
