Farmall 460 LP-What Next?

Friggin 460 won't run!!! Grrr. I've replaced plugs, points, condenser (gapped according to book). I've also worked on timing, but of course can't do that without it running. The book says 2 degrees BTDC. Does that sound right??? I also have a John Deere 3020 LP and it calls for 20 degrees BTDC SO I'm just wondering about the timing setting of the 460. Recently replaced coil too. Removed fuel filter--lotsa very fine, rust colored dust. Having a heck of a time finding a new filter. Cleaned old filter as well as possible. Do I need to get somebody to tear into the LP regulator, or what next??? Thanks for ideas. kelly

Purolater still has that filter but I can't find the number.

The regulator needs a vacuum signal in order to start delivering fuel. Line could be plugged by goo or possibly the regulator is sticking. Get the vacuum line loose from the manifold and apply an external source to see if it will open.

All my propane tractors are 450 and older but I've seen the 460/560 system and it is substantially similar. I can't remember if the 460 came with an Ensign regulator or a different brand but they are functionally the same.

The IH timing sounds like the initial setting, low idle. The mechanical advance takes care of the maximum advance at high idle.

Was this one sitting a while?

CenTex--great to hear from you--at least it sounds as if we're in the same state altho we may be many miles apart! I bought the 460 up near Killeen/Ft Hood area about two years ago. The seller said they'd been using it until replaced by a newer Ford or New Holland. I DO have the Purolator number (from the old filter). NAPA said they couldn't find it. Now, I've ordered a Baldwin which the seller (Capitol Bearing) says is a cross-match for the Purolator number.I have a manual, but I don't read Greek (in other words I'm too dumb to read it). I don't know where the vacuum line is on the regulator, but I'll see if I can find it in the manual. By the way, mine is an Ensign regulator, filter, etc. kelly P.S. I live between San Marcos and New Braunfels.
