When the M @ W clutch lever is back, low range, should it be quiet like a Allis -Chalmers or is there a growling noise to it ??

There is no low range with an M&W.

I have an M with the same M&W 9 spd in it. Mine is in low range (or normal) when it is in the forward position. And in high when pulled back, not sure what sound you mean but mine doesn't sound any different then a stock transmission, just the whine in certain gears but its pretty well used.. hope that helps?

He is asking about the "live pto" lever where it stops the forward movement and keeps the pto running not the overdrive set-up

ah ok, never heard of that. My only live pto lever is slamming the gear shift in neutral as fast as I can before something breaks :)
