I'm curious about the box the steering wheel shaft goes into is this my power steering box? It has a fill plug on the left side as you look down sitting on the tractor if so do you fill it with regular power steering fluid?

The transmission, rear end and hydraulics share a common sump on your tractor., hence no power steering fluid.

So can I assume gear oil like Lucas or something goes in this box?

Some of the IH models like the 340 are power assist steering. Meaning it still has a gear
box like the manual models. The hydraulics "help" it along. The bottom line is the gear box
definitely needs gear oil in it. The assist part runs off the tractor hydraulic system and
reservoir.
