Raked 10 acres with the BN and old Judson rake last week and the tractor ran steady without a hickup for approx. 4 hours. Shut it off to get a drink and it would not restart. No spark. Tried off and on for about 3 hrs and nothing and then it started. Did the same thing to me last year so I put new points and condensor, rotor and cap and had no more problems until last week. If the coil was getting hot and shorting out wouldn't it cool down enough to start before waiting 3 hrs? New coil approx $60.00 so I would like to be as sure as I can be. Am I on the right track or is there something else I should look for? 12 volt battery and it usually starts right up.Thanks.....Fred

I would check coil and impulse both when hot , not a mag fan but my experience if the work they can't be beat.

I don't think heat will affect the impulse from working. You should be able to hear the clicking of the impulse while the engine is cranking.

All the farmalls I have been around Were hard starting when fully warmed up.

a couple of things. First off, your symptoms sound like a failing coil. Also, the previous posters are correct, being hot won't affect the impulse working.

Clean and check your points. If they are clean and correct, run it. If it happens again, I will almost guarantee your coil is failing...........

Ive never seen a letter series tractor hard starting after warmed up.I had a Super C that did that and vafter points and plugs and carb work,I found it was a coil wire
