450 farmall transmission issue

I got a 450 that when you step in the
clutch it stops the transmission but I
can't get it out of gear. If the Tractor is
rolling to a stop then I can slip it out,
but even if I hold the breat and release
the clutch a little it still won't slip out
of gear. If it sits on a small incline with
the clutch in I can't get it out of gear.
What's going on inside?

Does it have a TA?? If it does then can you shift the TA and then shift it out of gear?? If you can then the TA needs to be adjusted

Try adjusting the TA clutch so that it starts releasing just as the main clutch is released.
Adjust the main clutch so the pedal moves about 1 inch at the pedal freeplay.
Then put it is third or 4th and just see where the tractor starts to pull as you let up on the clutch.
Measure this amount (safely).
Set the Ta clutch so its T.O bearing is just touching the fingers at this point. Jim

Agreed - your TA is out of adjustment. I was having similar (but not nearly as bad) issues with my 350 and I finally broke down and read the manual on how to adjust the TA and did it. Made a big difference in operation.

Ditto to what has been said. One other, rare-ish situation that happened to my 560D; one of the main clutch finger pivot holes egged out, and that led to the clutch not releasing, and to a similar shifting issue that you mentioned.

You can "fix" it, and see what is going on, from the lower clutch cover. The "fix" is to 1st adjust the clutch and TA clutch per manual, and to then adjust the nut on the lever that is the culprit. All 3 levers need to have the same amount of clearance, or in this case, "press". One usually sets this with the clutch on a work bench, with parts that are not comprimised. Rather a pain doing in in the tractor, and certainly not the best "fix", but it is a good short term help. Be sure to disconnect the battery, and block the wheels, as the machine must be in neutral, and you will have both hands WAY up in there!!'

Like i said, not the best way, but i had to do it to mine one fall, right in the middle of fieldwork, as it is my "big" horse.

Best of luck!
