Use a hand held GPS. If you don't have one you should be able to borrow one from one of your friends.

If a standard 4th and running 1650 RPM with a loaded tire radii of 28.3 inches it's just a shade over 5.4 MPH.

Set your throttle where you want it, and take off driving through the pasture or down the gravel road.

Get your wrist watch with second hand ready.

Get two items to throw out.

When the second hand gets to "12" or "6" or whatever, throw out one item (where you can find it). Drive for one minute, throw out the next item.

Step off the number of paces between the two items, take it times 3 to get the number of feet driven in one minute.

Divide by 88.

That is the Miles per Hour.

This is how we calibrated sprayers in the old days before reliable speedometers or GPS.
