cub electric problem

Have a cub when you run it on H the ampmeter goes to the left like it is discharging when you put it on low it still goes to the left like it is discharging. Is the Cub pos.or neg. ground I think it is a 1947 Thanks Paul

If it is original 6 volt it will be positve grd. If 12 volt w/alternator it should be neg.grd.

I 12 volt w/generator it could be either way.

If a battery is installed opposite from factory original (most 6 volt were factory + ground), the ammeter will register bass ackwards. It will read - discharge when charging or + charge when discharging. That can be cured by swapping ammeter leads orrrrrrrrr installing the battery correctly. Don't forget to re polarize BEFORE start up if you change battery polarity.

As has been stated, IH 6 volt systems were positive ground, meaning the + post was tied to the frame. Your ammeter could be reading backward for multiple reasons. You will need a voltmeter to determine which. The ammeter wired backwards, the battery installed backwards, or someone working on the electrical system and failing to properly polarize the generator when done. At this point, your battery could even be charged backwards.

Here is a link to a diagram for the wiring with a distributor. It is for H, M, etc. but is also the same wiring as a cub.

If you still have a magneto it is this diagram.
