Hi all, I got a super MD that jumps out of fifth gear when it has to go up hill or pull any thing. What needs to be done and how much disassembly to get the job done? Thanks Pete

Major. The 5th gear is worn from grinding it into fifth while rolling. Need to split, maybe even a 'double spit'(I'm not sure on this). Then you can replace 5th gear. The 'experts' will chime in...

I'm no expert, but I have done it on an H and you don't need to split the tractor. You have to pull the top off the rear end and that is a pain (especially on an MD)

Here is a link to all the pictures from the project.

Parts in the picture need checked. Internal teeth on the 4th 5th sliding gear (numbers on it) lock onto the other teeth of input shaft in the housing in the picture for 5th gear. Bearings on the front shaft and roller bearing in the picture keep shafts in line. Also the shift fork and rail under and mounted to the transmission top cover needs checked for broke, bent, and worn along with the detent balls and springs.
