lift all, belly pump (M)

At some point in the early years I think IH changed the speed of the lift all. As some of you know, I have been working on the pumps in my M's. I put a very early model pump in the M so I could use it while I rebuilt the pump original to the tractor. The very early pump (5028E) lifts much more quickly than the original pump (5028EA). I like the slower one much better. The only difference I have noticed is in the relief valve body components. A different relief valve spring sleeve. I have a 3 pt hitch and I am lifting at the same RPM and the same implement. This is something to think about if you are trying to rebuild a pump with parts from another pump. Ellis

The Lift-All runs at PTO speed, they are all 540 RPM. I think you'll find the original pump was slipping a lot and if you get it back to specification it will run "faster" too.

The pump is going to run at PTO speed, so it can't be turning faster than about 600 at high idle. But a good pump will put out more than a worn pump. If the tractor has a 9 speed conversion in the trans, it will turn much faster tan designed in the high range (not advised, and dangerous for 540 PTO equipment. The early pumps made about 750 psi later pumps were boosted to 850. Jim

Pump output and pressure was helped by decreasing the clearance between gears, pump body and plate to .005 max.
Early ones could have more clearance. Relief valve parts were changed also so the kickoff pressure was 750 PSI to 800 PSI. Early pumps not upgraded kicked off at 450 to 500 PSI.
Probably the slower unit has more wear. Also early pumps used pump shaft bushings and later ones used needle bearings.
