Head torque spec

I still haven't been able to find my owners manual for my 10-20 that I put where I knew it wouldn't get lost. Looking for the head torque spec. Don't know if they were different through the years but this one is a 38. I have the service manual for a very early one but that doesn't tell me what I need to know. It does tell me the rocker arm clearance though. It says 8 to 12 thousands or the thickness of 3 to 4 normal sheets of paper. Had to read that twice to make sure I read it right. Thanks for your help.

Based on my experience with F20s and 30s, I would say 80-90 ft. lbs. torque. You wont find any torque specs published for these tractors. They go by bolt size. Did you replace the head gasket??
As for valve clearance, 8-12 thousands seems awfully tight to me. My 20s and 30 are set at .018. Just my .02.

Kent,If you have tightened any bolts you can usually feel how tight is tight.Torque wrenches weren't found and the factory I was told,Your pushrods need to be loose,8-10 is to tight,it should be more like 17-20.always recheck after running, the 10-20 were prone to get dirt in the lifters after removing the head.

Thanks very much for your replies. I will take your advice and set accordingly. Yes, I will be replacing the head gasket. Thanks for your help.

Thank you. I ordered another manual yesterday so the one I have and can't find should show up in about a week.
