Super A: plowing with 3 point hitch conversion

I have a strong running Super A with a homespun 3 point hitch conversion. It works well with the bush hog, but I am having trouble with the plow. With the top link set at its shortest, it's still too long to get the right angle on the plow point. The shortest I can get the top link is about 20". Any thoughts? DO I have to get a separate top link that is shorter for the plow, or am I missing something?

kind of the same problem with my SC i took a reg top link and cut about 6" out of the middle then welded it back together making really short top link but it works

I went the other way. Welded a piece in the middle to better accommodate implements using the Pat's quick hitch extensions.

"Homebrew conversion". There is your problem. The 'standard' specs do not apply here. You have two choices. Modify the plow to
accept the top link you have(not advisable). Or Buy/make up a second top link to use/'dedicate' for the plow."Home brew" is
great.Kind of my 'mantra'.But sometimes you have to make special 'allowances'. Best of luck! Steve

A 3 point is all about geometry. How well it works is dependent on it. Most "home brew"/aftermarket 3 points have the toplink mount too high to work 'right'.Some put the top link too far back.Other issues come up with incorrect geometry. Post a pic or two of your 3 point. We can help better if we can see....Different brands and models use differing lengths of top links. The ones you buy at TSC are a universal, made to fit most(but not all) applications.

DeltaRed is absolutely right. Get the top link "fixed" and the next problem may be because the front ends of the lower links aren't placed right. Probably harder to fix than sawing a chunk out of a top link.

I see all your points and thank you for your input. I think a link with a 16" min length would solve my problem, although I also noticed this single bottom plow had a wooden shim in it that facilitates transport on the tractor. Then I started thinking maybe I should shim it for plowing. You shim on top for transport, and under for plowing. Have you ever heard of that? That helped a lot. Still, I need a shorter top link. Here are some photos: (Can't seem to figure out how to post photos)

My local NAPA store got a short top link for me a year or so ago. Don't recall the length, but certainly a lot shorter than 20 inch. It was the
same as the one that comes with the Woods 3 pt conversion for the Super A. It's going to be a challenge to make a 3 Pt hitch plow work with a
SuperA. Why don't you just buy a plow that was made for and came with many Super As. They bolt to the reversed drawbar and are not that
big a chore to put on. You can probably find one for $100 or so. Those old plows do a really good job when properly adjusted. I used one for
years to plow my garden.

I like your idea. I wish I had all the implements to go with the original hitch. That conversion is a pain and it isn't like the professionally built ones you see at a site like Agsupply. It was just that the tractor was a good deal including five implements...
