Tanked engine-worried

I bought a replacement engine a few years ago for an M. It was really cruddy and rusty. I had it tanked and really cleaned up nicely. I have been feeling really good about how clean it was on the inside, but I didn't know about repainting the inside until I read Gene Bender's response in another post. Is this horrible? Have I really messed up? I had this done in 09, and have changed the oil twice since then. Thanks, Ellis

You are FINE literally countless engines have been hot tanked and not re-painted on the inside with Glyptol.

I wouldn't tear the engine down just to prime the inside. Instead I'd just keep the oil and filters changed regularly and not worry about it. Worst case the block might need to be tanked again the next time it's overhauled (30+ years from now?). Enjoy your tractor!

No issue, I agree with the other posts. Few engines have had the coating put on them in the first place. Much of that was done because the cleaning process left sand and core material in the block. You are fine and dandy. Jim

I tank dipped a C135 about 2008 and have been in it a time or two since and have not seen any trouble with rust or corrosion yet , I can't guarantee what your will do but mine is fine I use my 340 farmall a good bit and like it a lot.

Don't give it another moments thought. Literally multiple tens of millions of engines were manufactured and run without having been painted. Cast iron is a little bit porous and now the inside of your motor has been thoroughly oiled from running.

Anyway, it would require a complete tear down and baking of the block to get the oil out of the pores of the cast iron to be able to repaint it. It would be a huge disaster if you tried to repaint and it didn't stick well.
