450 gas farmall hard start

Why does my 450 gas keep turning over normal but will not start until the second I take my finger off the starter button?

I have not been around 450s much, but for some reason (low voltage, bad connection?) your coil is not getting power while cranking.

Good Luck, Jeff

The ignition is being starved for electricity during cranking. Some 450s were 12vlot, some are 5 and some are converted to 12. A couple of ways to fix it are as follows: if 12v use an automotive style starter relay from a ford (1960 fairlane will do) and connect the I (small) terminal to the coil side of the ballast resistor. If it has a 12v no external resistor required, I would change it to a resistor required coil, then do as above. this supplies far more voltage during cranking. If 6volt, the battery needs to hold at least 5.8 volts during cranking. fat 0gauge cables are needed as are good connections. Again it is to help starting voltage to coil. There are 1950s Ford coils that are resistor required (run on about 4 volts) and use a starter relay with the extra "I" terminal to bypass the resistor. Jim
