H starting problem

Got my H running. 6 volt system, new battery. Starts up ok cold. Shut it off then try and start, it barely cranks over then dead. Hand crank she'll start with one revolution. Let the tractor sit for a bit (not running) it will start with starter. When it's running, needle says its charging. For me, electrical systems consist of a few wires, mojo, and black magic. I have tried burning some sage around my tractor but it hasn't helped. This tractor has always acted this way, you had to talk to it just right and it would go. If not, it was a pain In the A.. Any advice appreciated.

When you are cranking feel both ends of both cables which one is warm is the culprit. I assume you have 1ga cables and has the starter been serviced.

If you make the mistake of touching the lugs on the back of the starter button... Yes very hot. Is there a service kit for starters?

You can get new brushes at NAPA just take the # from the starter. Best would be to take it to a starter generator shop mite also need bearing and bushng

Ok, cool, it has the original starter button, so I'll start there maybe replace that (but if new ones aren't much better?) and clean all the connections. I think I have a spare starter to work on so I have one to swap out. Thanks y'all.
