SMTA Water Jacket

I don't know much about mechanics so can someone describe the water jacket of a SMTA? I know the engine is a dry sleeve. What does that mean?

In a dry sleeve engine, the sleeves line a bore in the cast iron block. Coolant does not contact them directly.

In a wet sleeved engine, the sleeves are directly exposed to the coolant, and need to seal at the top and bottom to keep coolant out of the bore and the crankcase.

What Bob said -- In addition the jacket is shaped inside to effectively distribute the coolant.

So in addition to Bob and CNKS the coolant comes out of the bottom of the radiator after being cooled, The water pump pushes the coolant back into the engine block "water jacket" where it passes along the outside of the cast tubes the sleeve press in. Then it flows up through holes in the head and block mating surfaces into the head. There it cools the combustion chamber and valve seat areas of the head "water jacket". Then out through the thermostat housing and into the radiator to be cooled. I assume you own a SMTA, if you look behind the carburetor the rectangular plate you see that runs the length of the block is covering the major portion of the engine block "water jacket".
