400 starter

I have a gas 400. was starting every time and then it would just click. I could jump across the solenoid and start it just fine. thought it was the
solenoid. put a new one on and it once again just click. Thoughts????

Exact same thing just happened to me, took it in for a test and found a short in the starter. Was $120.00 to rebuild.

If the lights dim down when the key is at start. the starter has issues. If they dont, the connections (or brushes in the starter) need help. Jim

If the starter is needing parts like an armature, field coils, or an end frame it is pretty hard to keep the repair costs under $100.
