MtMan - On that L-59 mower

Note that the bolts that hold the blades on the spindle are left handed threads when you need to take them off to sharpen
or replace the blades. I bought my L-59 new and I when needed to take the blades off to be sharpened the first time it
was a real pain. It seems that the bolts had lock-tight on them from the factory. I had to take the deck off, turn it
over so I could use a 3/4 inch air wrench to get them off. I DID NOT reinstall any lock tight when I put them back on.
If I remember right, the bolt head takes a 15/16 wrench. Good luck with the Super A and the Woods. IMHO they make a
fine combination for mowing. My Super A needs rings real bad, it'll use a quart of oil to 5 gallons of gas and fouls
plugs if you let it idle too long. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Thanks for the come baack. I sharpened the blades when I first got it so I know they are left handed threads. I need the belt number as I cannot find any numbers on the old one. It does a fine job of mowing. I seem to use it more for a brush hog than a finish mower. It's a tough mower and a tough Super A.

The only way to get those blade bolts off is with a air wrench< you have to drive the front wheels up on a incline..

Go to eBay and search for Woods 4152. You will find several choices for belts for your mower at reasonable prices.

I don't think the blade bolts have lock tight on them from the factory. They do have a plastic insert in the threads that acts similar to a lock nut that has the plastic insert. The insert is not oblivious unless you examine the bolt closely. The bolts also have special double thread so a standard bolt with left hand treads won't work. The extra torque required to remove/install the bolt with the locking plastic insert is the reason that Woods included a spindle lock wrench with your mower. However I've found the spindle wrench to not be of much use. The best way to remove and install the blade bolts is to use an impact wrench. I use anti seize compound on the blade bolts on my mower. Had one come off once when I wound the belt wrong and the blades were turning right hand instead of left. On the Woods mowers, left hand mowers have left hand blade bolts and right hand mowers have right hand blade bolts. Some have said that you can can change these mowers from left hand to right hand throw by just rewinding the belt. Don't do that as the blades won't stay on!
