544 engine

I have a 544 with the gas engine,not running when I got it.It has good compression and dose not leak off but will not run without choke on full, then not very good . Carb .has been cleaned and changed with one from a running tractor, just dose not have good draw on intake , any ideas. thanks

Plugged breather? Try unhooking it at the carb and see if it helps.

The breather is not connected, left that off when we changed carb. with other tractor.

Sounds like the intake manifold is leaking this reducing your vacuum. Try spraying some starting fluid around the intake with the tractor running and see if it picks up RPM. If that's not it make sure the intakes not clogged.

Check intake manifold gaskets. Spray (not at the manifold but beside the manifold) a light mist of starting fluid or WD-40; if the engine runs properly with the mist, you have leaking gasket.
