Farmall A Transmission

I have a question on the transmissions of the Farmall A. I have a 1942 and a 1945, both with stock engines (and stock everything as far as I know, both have been in the family for a long time) and 9.5x24 tires. For some reason, the 1942 appears to be geared significantly slower than the 1945. Enough different that when I plow or disk with them I put the 1942 into a higher gear vs the 1945. I have looked over both tractors and do not see any "x" codes or anything, and I did not see anything in the parts book. I was just wondering if anyone may have any ideas on why they are so different. Thanks in advance.

A possibility is that the governors are set different. A few years ago I had my Super A completely apart, including the transmission. I adjusted the governor also, according to the book. All gears seem to be faster, apparently due to the governor--I didn't do anything else.
