Farmall H Tires/Rim Size

Hi, I need to replace the tires and rims on my farmall h. I am going to go with a 12.4 x 38 rear tire. I need to know what size rim I need to fit the center piece. I also need to replace one of the center pieces so if anybody knows what they are actually called or know were to get one I would surly appreciate it. Thanks - Southpaw

12.4s are made for an 11" rim but would work on a 10 or even 12" one.
Cast center piece is typically called your rear wheel hub, at least
around here.

Most of the rims I have had on Hs have been 9 or 10" wide. I have a set of 14.9/38 tires on 9" rims that I had on my H and now have on a 300. They look a little different but they
have great traction and the price was right. The part you are referring to is sometimes called the cast center or the rear hub or the rear wheel casting, probably there are other
names too. They are usually pretty available at a reasonable price but you'll want to find one that is not too far from home as they weigh 200 pounds or so.

(quoted from post at 06:11:24 06/21/15) Thank you all! So much! What would a 12.4 x 38 best fit on a 9, 10 or 11 inch rim?

I own 2 Hs equipped with 12.4x38s. Both tractors have 10 inch wide rims. The tires fit good and have a very good footprint.

An 11 inch rim would be my first choice, a 10 will work but I wouldn't put them on a 9.....

I agree, 11" is the correct size, but you will be fine with either 10 or 11. I use mine for raking and moving wagons, so going to replace the 12.4 with 13.6 to gain road speed.

I'll bet if you take the time to look at he tire right on the side wall it will say what size rim to use. Last time I looked at a 12.4X38 I believe it said to use a 11 inch rim

As others have posted the 12.4 is the same width as the old 11 inch tire. Common practice was to use a rim one inch narrower than the tire. I think you will find that most Hs have either 9 or 10 inch rims.

I have a pair of steel wheel cut-downs for an H. Those rims ARE 10 inch wide, but with 13.6x38 tires. Squeezing those 13.6 tires onto a 10 inch rim makes the tractor set too tall at the rear.

I've got a pair of cut offs with 10 x 36 rims and 13.6(?) tires. They are fine height wise but the side walls do have quite a bit of taper.
