NF tire change?

OK, this is probably a dumb question, but what is the best way to lift the front of an NF H to remove the wheels? I suppose a bottle jack would be the best idea?

Is that how they would have done it back in the day?

Just curious.

thanks!

Bottle jack under the clutch housing. For
safety block both rear wheels before you
begin!

For front wheel removal on a NFE FARMALL H, just drive one front
wheel up on a 2x4. Remove the other tire/wheel, replace, then
drive the new tire/wheel onto the 2x4 and remove the OTHER
wheel/tire.

If you had a loader with 2-way hydraulics, just lift both front
wheels off the ground.

The WFE's were a PITA, had to screw around with Hi-Lift jacks,
jack stands, etc. Or use the loader if you had 2-way hyd.

Thanks for the advice. Lifting under the clutch housing makes sense, but they probably would have done the 2x4 or some other piece of wood under one side when doing it 70+ years ago then, right?

2x6 about 3 feet long. Drive one tire up on the edge of it and remove the wheel on the other side.

just one..
I also just drive one tire up on a board.
both, if I jack it up under the clutch housing,
pound chocks front and rear of both rear tires so it doesn't
try to turn off the jack (it will try)
Take the pedestal off....I use a gantry and hoist to lift the front so I'm sure it ain't going anywhere.

Can't tell you how many I've fixed/changed using the 2X4 trick. Safe, easy, no jacks to fall off, and no extensive cribbing required. I highly recommend it.
