Recently purchased this SMTA which had a PTO that I was told by the previous owner, probably just needed adjusting. Adjusting didn't work and finally discovered the coupler shaft between the rear unit and the shaft to the seasonal disconnect is missing, gone, no trace. Found a couple used ones within 300 miles of me here in WA.
Don't know why it's missing, but makes me wonder why. Are there other problems in the drive train or did they have trouble finding a replacement shaft and put it back together again without one? Doesn't look like an easy task lining everything up to replace it, so maybe they just decided they didn't need the PTO and put the coupler shaft on the shelf. I don't know!
Anyway, I have some pictures and test results of some of the mechanics of the PTO drive train.
Looking to tap the fine resources on this site for some much needed help. My son and I are novices who are sometimes dangerous with a wrench in hand but not afraid to us it.
