Is your governor rod still moving? That would be my first stop. Your governor may quite possibly need rebuilt. Start it and put it under load. If the governor doesn't move the throttle, then it's a bad governor.

I would also recommend before starting it, to drain some oil from the bottom of your pan. Make sure there aren't any shavings. I would have to hear the noise, but it's a quick check for anything catastrophic.

Now, having said all that the only sound I've ever heard that sounds like morning doves is a bad distributor. I've heard it called laughing monkeys. The distributor bearing will be shot. To check this pull everything off and get to the shaft. Sometimes you can see shavings, other times there's play. But it will cause poor running conditions.

Well first off do a tune up and either get a set of Autolite plugs or a set of C86 A/C plugs install a new set of points and set to .020 and on the plugs set them at .025. . Next put a timing lite on it and set the timeing to 23 Degrees Before TDC and full throttle . Then Change your gas grade to 93 octane ya can not work a 706 gasser on 87 octane . Also i would bet that the valves need adjusted . but the big thing is the gas . But if ya don't believe me then just keep on running it and you will be rebuilding that engine due to melted pistons and scored liners.

Make sure the fuel line is clear, I'd go as far as taking the sediment bulb assembly off the tank and make sure its free of any dirt, rust, feathers and old rags. Make sure you have plenty of gas getting to the carb. I would try apply some choke to see if it will recover from a stumble, if it does it is most likely a fuel issue. Not sure what sound a dove makes?

It means that when they sound like that you have pistons swelling and they are starting to guld to the sleeves , And if this has gone on even for a little bit you have serious engine problems . and i do not care how much CHOKE you apply this is not going to help .
