super c hydraulics

There is another thread on this topic down a little. The owners manual states to use Touch Control Fluid which was an early hydraulic which is no longer produced or available having been replaced by Hy-Tran. The 30 weight oil noted in an earlier response is commonly used in the earlier IH hydraulic systems with the lift all hydraulic system or belly pump on the Farmall H and M tractors. Hope this helps, Hal.

The old lift oil sold by IH was a light weight oil and would be more like today's power steering oil. I am using Hy-Tran 90 now and the response is slow on the front rockshaft. We could use the lift to shake trash off the front gangs with the lift using the light weight IH lift oil. I plan to drain the Hy-Tran and fill with either transmission fluid or power steering fluid.

IH came out with Touch Control Fluid because of problems with motor oil in the unit. Just use a quality hydraulic oil and avoid the problems. By "quality" I mean Hy-Tran or any universal fluid that meets Hy-Tran specs. Most farm stores carry 2 grades of hydraulic oil. Typically the better one is "good enough" and the cheap one isn't.
