Super MTA Diesel Carb

Wondering if anyone has any advice for removing the gas carburator on a Farmall Super MTA diesel. The four nuts and locking washers that hold the carb up to the manifold I am having trouble getting the inner front bolt towards the radiator off, any help would be appreciated .

Cut an open end wrench in half. OR you could use the correct tool which would be a crows foot or offset wrench.

Thanks, and do you need to just disconnect the choke at the end of the choke rod or do you need to remove the linkages between the carb and the block

It's easier and faster to just take the whole intake manifold off with carburetor attached. Then you can get to the carb nuts unobstructed. It also goes back on a lot easier that way.

Isn't there all the switch over stuff to deal with at that point?

I think you only need to disconnect the choke rod.

I was able to get the last bolt off, dumb move on my part, I had the gas to diesel lever in the diesel position and when I moved it to gas the linkages moved and allowed me to get a 1/2inch open ended wrench that I had sawed in half and loosen the nut.

I agree. I have removed/installed gas start carburetors both ways. This is the slickest way to remove/replace a gas start carburetor. The metal intake manifold gaskets are usually intact and can be re-used many times without a problem as well.

You have to disconnect it anyway to get the carb off. The manifold butterfly trip-over just sits on top of the lever that actuates it, no disconnecting there is necessary.

would you be willing to share the serial number of your tractor. I had two of these SMTA -D and still have the one. I am always curious of serial numbers that may be close or in succession. Thanks a lot . They are a fun tractor.
