teddy52food,
Can you please elaborate on what you did for the 6v gen? I have the 3 brush and want to make a voltage regulator work if I can, or do whatever is best. Thanks

Just take the # on the gen and then make sure you get a reg thats made for that gen. I get mine from Car Quest they are made in USA and have one made for your gen complete with instructions on how to install.

A 3-brush generator used on old-old tractors and Model A Ford cars don't use a Regulator. The 3rd brush is adjusted to put the desired amps out that is required for the most constant speed of the machine. On top of the generator is mounted a cut-out that connects the generator when the RPM is sufficient to charge the battery and disconnects it when engine is turned off. This works fairly well for my car but for a working tractor you may have to update to a more modern generator w/matching regulator or go to a one wire alternator. Cut-Outs used to be Magnetic switches and now come as solid state.

This subject is covered over and over on this Forum and those for other makes tractors so if you look back in the Forum's there are lots of experts that have tried to help. You don't hear much about 3-brush generators any more since more modern stuff has been available forever.
